Whiny Wednesday: Katy of Sugarlaws on Nesting, Nursery Inspiration

By Katy Atlas, Sugarlaws

There’s a period in every mom-to-be’s pregnancy where she goes through the process of getting the house ready for the baby. Apparently, it involves a lot of cleaning, organization, decorating, and generally preparing for all those crazy days as a newborn. Appropriately, it’s called “nesting.”

I nested epically.

I think I was about three weeks pregnant when I started losing my mind about any inch of mess in our house. In my first trimester, I went through every junk drawer in our house and cleaned them all out. In my second trimester, I spent hours picking out furniture and deciding which DIY projects were safe and appropriate for a pregnant lady to undertake.  (The answer? Not many of them.) A week before my third trimester started, I cleaned out the beauty cabinets in my closet — a process that involved many hours of organization and two whole garbage bags of products I got rid of (I know, gross)!

But, by far, the best part about nesting was working on the nursery. From the first day I thought about it, I envisioned a room that was colorful, beautiful and serene, and settled on grey and aqua as my main colors. I picked out the perfect white furnishings, little accents for the dresser, shelves, and walls, and thought carefully about where everything would go. It wasn’t easy (and it involved at least one major meltdown over whether or not to install a chandelier), but I slowly made our spare bedroom into the most beautiful baby-space I could imagine.

Sure, our little son won’t know the difference for quite some time. But I’ll know that I made his room as special as I possibly could, and I like to think that maybe it’ll make all those late nights a little easier on us both.

Andrea from Style My Way Shares Her 10-Minute Beauty Loves

Hey everybody! I’m Andrea from Style My Way and I'm so excited to be guest blogging for Julie while she’s tending to baby L! How exciting is it to be bringing a new baby home?! I know little C is going to be so excited to meet her, as we all are!

Speaking of mommyhood, I’m a mom to a sweet baby boy of almost three! I’m a “work outside the home” mama that stays home once a week, weekends too of course, and I can tell you there are days that I can hardly get out of the house when trying to get both of us ready! There are days where I don’t even get a shower. Hey, you know what I’m talkin’ about…

And on those days, I rely on some pretty hefty products to get me, and him, out the door! I’m a naturally curly-haired girl (which I love/hate) but I have to say that on those “gotta get out of the house in less than 10 minute” days, it’s a blessing! I’ve tried every curly-hair product on the market, that’s not an exaggeration, and I’ve fallen for John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Curl Reliever Mousse. (So I washed my hair the day before, towel dried, and added a handful of mousse to my hair.) So easy! And, the curl is even better the next day. That’s the love part…

Next up is makeup, which isn’t really makeup. It’s just a few things that bring my face to life. I use Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths in a pinch and I love them! They truly leave my skin feeling clean and silky. After that, I swipe a few strokes of my Clinique mascara across the lashes and brush Benefit’s "Dallas" on the cheeks. It gives my face that just came in from the sun glow. I don’t wear a lot of lipstick when I’m with “M” because I can’t kiss all over him! So when we're out and about, I use various different lip glosses. I really love MAC’s Lipglass and Clinique’s Chubby Sticks. Oh, and I always throw on oversized shades! ALWAYS!

Lastly, it’s all about comfort when heading out with my little guy! My go-to look is a cute pant or boyfriend jean, a comfy sweater and booties! I still want to look cute and stylish even though I’m in full-on mommy mode! And here’s the final look!

What are your go-to products when you have less than 10 minutes to get out of the house? Any of these products on your existing list? Will they be added to your radar? I’m always looking for new things to try, so pass your favs my way! And Julie, best of luck with the new wee one! Can’t wait to hear your go-tos once you’re back in the blogging world!

XOXO
Andrea

blogger + heels = Pursuit of Shoes

Can't believe it's already the end of June, ya'll...so cray, right? I know I already had today's blogger as a guest the other week, but not "officially." Ashley of Pursuit of Shoes is an absolute must for our blogger + heels feature because she's got some insane taste in shoes. In a good way!! :)

Ashley's a Cali girl through and through, and what's funny is we met on the East Coast when we were both in New York for LuckyFABB and a Glam Network dinner. Let me tell you - this girl knows how to kick up some fabulous heels. Heart her and her heels.

If you haven't checked out Pursuit of Shoes, please do. These Zara leather sandals are just a peek at the amazing posts!

P.S. Don't you love this hot pink?! It's a Parker dress borrowed from Stylistla.com, another sweet, sweet online friend, Emily. If you live in L.A., check it out! xo

Pursuit of Shoes Gets Strap Happy

You guys...yes I am back from the beach (whew), but I think May was the busiest month of my life to date. So...I'm back but still catching up! I thought I'd take this opp to introduce you to one of my blogging BFFs, Ashley of Pursuit of Shoes. This girl knows her stuff, so listen up! And don't worry...BRB. xoxo

***
It's all about the pointy toe this season. More specifically, I'm loving d'orsay combos with a simple ankle strap! This is definitely a trend that will carry through to fall '13 and a style do-able on any shoe budget:

The Zara lovelies are my new faves - super comfy + a seriously chunky ankle strap. Need a little more height and cushion? Try Jeffrey Campbell's platform style. It comes in a great leather combo, too. Or go fancy with B Brian Atwood's statement making ankle strap (they're on sale!).

blogger + heels = Sparkling Footsteps

Happy Friday! In lieu of a regular blog post, since I'm at the beach today (it's rough, I know), I wanted to post this month's blogger feature. I love me some Sparkling Footsteps...and guess what? She just found out she's having a girl! Cue the chic shoe-loving applause. Lynzy, who hails from the Northeast, is a fellow Lucky Style Collective member and fellow Vogue Influencer, and I just love her style. Especially her pregnancy style! I mean, check out those ShoeMint heels

I first met Lynzy when I sat next to her at LuckyFABB one September long ago (well, it seems) and ogled at her amazing heels. So funny, right? Of course, it would turn it out we both own shoe blogs! I love Sparkling Footsteps because it's real girl style just like I love to post here - ya know, stuff you'd actually wear. It's no frills, give it to you straight and it combines a lot of style with beauty and fitness (she's an avid runner!).

If you haven't checked it out already, go there now. You'll love following along as Lynzy posts her cute lil' pregnancy updates. She's gonna have one chic baby, that's for sure. ;)

blogger + heels = Bedazzles After Dark

This month's blogger + heels makes me excited because it's blogger gal pal, Nikki of Bedazzles After Dark. Isn't she total cuteness?? I met Nikki at LuckyFABB and via The Glam Network this past September and have kept in touch with her ever since. Total. Doll. And natch we bonded over our love for shoes...as of late, we're both crazy in love with all things Prabal Gurung for Target. Squeal!

As you know, I bought the neon pumps, but now I'm having buyer's remorse wishing I had also scooped up these. Alas...I would just have to find another spot to put them in my closet, right? I'll just leave it to Nikki to rock these puppies like no other. If I recall, she shoe stalked these online for awhile. :) I absolutely love how she styled them with distressed (!) boyfriend jeans and that blue clutch (that's monogrammed!) is the most insane color.

On a side note, Nikki just moved from L.A. to Raleigh, so let's all give her a big IHH air kiss because now she's closer to moi! xoxo

blogger + heels = Dallas Wardrobe

This month, we travel down south because, duh, that's my roots. Who can resist a fellow southern blogger with a love for heels? Not I. And I'd be lying if I told you I was featuring Dallas Wardrobe blogger Amy Havins for her style alone. Some bloggers you just insta-click with, ya know?

With so many bloggers out there now putting together outfits, it's refreshing to know Amy's a "real life" stylist! Yup, she can actually help you with your wardrobe, so you don't have to hassle. Her company Web site is great if you haven't visited yet. But her blog is just as irresistible, showcasing her favorite fashion pieces of the moment and her own personal style (which I love, by the way). Since I'm head over heels for all of my ankle booties right now, I love the way Amy paired these from Cole Haan with a wispy DVF dress and a bit of faux fur. Cute patootie! As we sometimes say down south...

blogger + heels = A Keene Sense of Style

It's the second installment of our new blogger series, "blogger + heels," and I truly hope you're enjoying it so far! I've been wanting to introduce you to some of my fav bloggers for soooo long, so I hope you find these (heel-loving) girls inspiring each month. February's column brings us L.A. blogger Elizabeth Keene of A Keene Sense of Style

Elizabeth's blog is all about her own personal style, which is always perfectly styled and amazing, I must say. I'm so very jealous at how she's able to put things together and make it look so effortless! Take this ladylike pencil skirt, complete with leather gloves and pointy-toe pumps. Gorgeous.

And if you haven't seen this past Friday's outfit full of sequins, it's a must click. Elizabeth's also one of my fav bloggers to follow on Twitter and Instagram, so hope you'll follow along. She's so chic, yet so sweet. Gotta love that in a blogger, amen?!

blogger + heels = Fash Boulevard

Dress: LC Lauren Conrad, Blazer: LC Lauren Conrad, Necklace: T+J Designs, Rings: Posh Locket, Handbag: ShoeMint, Heels: ShoeMint
Happy Monday - whoooo hoo! Trying to show some enthusiasm since I'm feeling under the weather. Rawr...gotta get to feeling better fast so I can do this New York thang next week. In the meantime, I'm squealing with excitement to bring you a BRAND-NEW monthly column, blogger + heels. I'm so inspired by many, many other fashion bloggers (who also heart heels!), so I thought it might be a great way to come together and share some of my favs with you each month. First up?

I can't believe I just discovered Anna because her style is incredible - I mean, she's cute as a button so...I actually found out about her blog from Pose (you know, my fav app of the moment). Anna just reached 100k followers, so major congrats to her! And besides her own blog, Fash Boulevard, she finds the time to write a style column for Lauren Conrad's site and for Giuliana Rancic's FabFitFun site. Whew, talk about one busy (stylish) girl!

Anna posts tons of outfits, but this one caught my eye because I love the very subdued (and sweet) dress paired with edgier metallic heels - and of course, that pop of red in the blazer. These 5-inch platform pumps from ShoeMint are major, and I could see them pairing with oodles of things in my closet.

What do you think...would you wear this? ;)

P.S. Tomorrow I find out if I've won the GRAND PRIZE in the Diet Coke Show Your Heart contest, so wish me luck!!! xo
