New York Fashion Week: Adam Lippes Spring/Summer 2017 Collection

Fashion Week in New York is definitely going strong. I've already cried real tears for not being able to make it this season, but rest assured, I'll be back. One of the first designers whose show I ever saw (at Bryant Park, no less) was Adam Lippes. It was Valentine's Day and the show was the sweetest thing ever. So I'm slightly nostalgic when I post a bit of his spring/summer 2017 collection here. 

Within the first year of me starting this blog, Adam wrote me a personal note encouraging me to always follow my dreams and to keep up the good work. That said so much about him as a person, in addition to his designs being amazingly brilliant. To this day, I'll back anything he does wholeheartedly.

His label has evolved immensely since that show in 2009 in Bryant Park (it was acquired in 2010 and then he bought it back in 2012), and since the very beginning of his brand in 2004. He has come a long way since his basic white tees he became known for early on, and I relish in his elegant designs both then and now. (I even adored his Target collab)

This year his collection presentation was at his home in New York again (Adam wants everyone invited to be able to feel and interact with the designs, which is perfect thinking. I hate having to watch models prance behind poles in warehouses, honestly.) 

My favorite looks are these black and white pieces. They're classy, yet elegant and edgy. They celebrate the fashion lover, yet have the cleanest lines and most refined silhouettes. If I'm going to add new pieces to my closet, these are quite perfect.

Kudos to Adam Lippes for continuing great work in fashion. I'm never, ever disappointed. Keep up the great work, friend.

P.S. The top dalmatian look was inspired by Adam's dogs, favorites in his life. Isn't that the cutest?

Essie at Alexander Wang Fashion Week Show

I've always been an essie fan when it comes to my nail polish - it's amazing! Once I was at a conference in New York and even heard the founder (Essie Weingarten) speak...it was life-changing. No, really. Her polishes are so pretty - from the colors to the packaging. Not to mention, they have the cutest names and stay put for ages. 

Essie does a lot of work at New York Fashion Week, obviously. And these looks are from the Alexander Wang show. Just beautiful! Michelle Saunders for essie created a soft nail, inspired by pink chalk. (I mean, who doesn't love that right? Channeling my inner child right now.) To achieve the look she layered tuck it in my tux over fiji, and then applied matte about you to add a matte, chalky finish. These sorta remind me of my favorite cookies with royal icing. So sweet and smooth. LOVE it. (and now I run to go buy the ridge filling - the secret ingredient!)

Oh how I wish I were backstage viewing these nails IRL...but for this season, these images will have to do! 

To get this look:
1. Apply ridge filling base coat to clean, filed nails.
2. Next, apply one coat of fiji.
3. Them apply one coat of tuck it in my tux.
4. Finish with matte about you.

Expert tip: When creating a chalky nail look, use ridge filling base coat to create a smooth, flawless surface.

Jay Manuel Beauty at BCBG

Since I can’t BE at fashion week right now (because alas, I’m a working mom in fashion at the moment…), I might as well write about how truly brilliant the beauty was at BCBG’s show this season. Of course it’s most always on fleek, but this flawless look created by Jay Manuel Beauty reallllllly made me do a double take.

The wash of metallic sheen on the eyes is perhaps why we all take note, because it makes the entire face light up with a true (effortless) glow. And I adore this look. Being too made over is so not chic. A little bit of gloss…foundation…voila! Show off that amazing skin this fall (and um, I think I’m gonna have to get me some of that perfecting foundation Jay Manuel has going on because>>> WOW).

On the Heels of New York Fashion Week

 
 On the heels of New York Fashion Week (next week! eek!), I thought I would round up some of my favorite memories of years past. I've been attending for the last seven years, and somehow it never gets old (well, by the end of the week it does, but that's ok! It takes a lot of work to be glam 24/7.). 

I've captured lots of celebrities, designers and some really amazing fashion both front of stage and back. I absolutely LOVE my NY memories and looking back at these photos.

Erin Fetherston Gives Us Chic Elegance for Fall

 

While I was sad to miss fashion week last month (ok, really sad, but not terribly sad to miss the zero-degree temps while wearing stilettos), I'm super-glad I had M. (of the p town girls) there to help me cover this show...one of my all-time favorites. Erin Fetherston is the best. Love her! Not only is she doll-like perfection herself (that's her in the bottom photo), but her collections are always pieces I would totally wear right off the runway. (um, in my dreams, perhaps!)

So M. took this exclusive video from her seat at the show, and I curated some of my fav looks from the fall collection, my fav being the first look below of lacy goodness. Look at that high neck...swoon! The entire collection was such sophisticated magic. I loved the mix of classic, girly and dramatic (I mean, look at those last numbers!). 

The dresses are gorgeous, but I love the separates even more. The crop top with the a-line skirt is so flattering and the mix of amazing fabrics like silk, organza and jacquard just sweetens the deal. I love the woodland-inspired palette of mossy green, poinsettia red, blackberry, and saffron. They completely add warmth to a collection grounded in ebony and ivory. I'm a solids girl at heart, but can't help but fall in love with the beautiful prints and embroideries of this fantastic collection. Now...gimme that crop top and floral skirt, like, now.

DKNY Continues the Sporty Chic Trend for Spring

If ever was there a fav fashion week show of mine, it's DKNY. It's the epic part of my New York trip each season, and usually the last show I see before I fly home. I love ending it on such a good note! Each season, Donna Karan shows at Cedar Lake in Chelsea and it's just as much a who's who as it is the fashion. On our way to the show, famed New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham rode past us on his bicycle, wearing his blue jacket. We chimed, "hi, Bill!" and he responded with a friendly "hello." Such a New York moment. 

I'm not sure about you, but I'm a little excited (as a new mom) how things are turning towards sporty chic these days. While I'm not sure I could rock a bright-red dress with crazy platform pumps in my hometown, I do admire those who could. Being comfortable and bold, graphic patterns are something we can all look forward to come spring 2015. Donna Karan's "New York nation" is about beautiful black and white mixed with bold hues of red and blue. Pleats and volume and stripes, oh my! (gimme that crop top) DKNY pulls out all of the brave cards this spring, and I know I can't wait to scoop up some more platform pumps for my dresses.

Soft Layers at Rebecca Taylor Spring 2015

I was so incredibly excited and honored to see the Rebecca Taylor show this season because if I could have my way, I'd have an entire closet full of everything, single thing RT. Especially for spring. The designer really knows her stuff when it comes to making a girl feel sweet and frilly and I had a pretty close-up look at this collection (too bad I was trekking from another show, so forgot my "real" camera. le sigh.). After waiting for almost two hours (I was early), the show finally started...just down the street from Chelsea Piers. 

As you can see, spring is all about soft blue and white with fun, frilly textures and layering. I can't get enough of the photo above that layers a textured sweater over a swingy midi skirt and heels. This. is. spring perfection, folks. Don't get me wrong, the collection also incorporates brights, including a bright green bustier layered over chiffon button down and trousers as well as several bright orange floral applique pieces that are beyond gorge. But I found myself pining over these softer styles and I really love the mix of chiffon throughout. The belting is classic, the coats are amazing and the way everything just flows against the body is breathtaking. Thanks for another beautiful collection, Rebecca Taylor. Still squealing I got to see it in action.
