7 Days of Giveaways...Signed Copy of DKNYPRGirl's book, Leave Your Mark

Author and social media pro Aliza Licht shares her career tips
Today's feature (and giveaway) is so special to me because it's via one of my true mentors. (Cue the applause.) In the crazy fashion and social media world, it's easy to get lost. But, Aliza Licht, SVP of Global Communications for The Donna Karan Company (aka @DKNYPRGirl on Twitter), has made me (and I'm sure many, many others) feel as they though I do belong. She's always appreciated me as both a brand and a person, and even though I only see her IRL at the DKNY fashion show I attend once a year, I feel as if I could chat her up at any moment over coffee about my favorite shoes or lipstick. This girl knows her stuff, and I'm honored to know her.

Today her new book Leave Your Mark hits Barnes and Noble store shelves (and Amazon!) and I'm squealing with excitement for her. I just love it when good people succeed. Aliza's book is one you're gonna love because it speaks to us all exactly how she speaks to me...and everyone...like a BFF! What a great book on striving to go get your dream job and really "killing it on your career." It's a book I wish I had just out of college, but honestly will read at this point in my life as I plan to enter back into the workforce in a few years.

Today I'm giving away a signed copy of her book! Just enter your info in the box at the end of this post, and good luck!! Now onto our exclusive QA...

I Heart Heels: You're an SVP at DKNY, yet I feel like we could be BFFs. What's your secret to staying so "girl next door" and so humble after so much success?
Aliza Licht: I'm a girl's girl. It feels that way, because it's authentic. I've been taught to remember where I came from and to always appreciate those who've helped me pave my way.

Beyond that though, I truly believe that success is fleeting. For me, the pride of success lasts only for a few minutes. I never want to depend on it, so I'm always challenging myself to think, "what's next?" I know that there will always be bigger and there will always be better. I'm constantly looking forward because I haven't made it yet. We're all in the middle of our journeys.

IHH: Do you think brands should be on Twitter and other social platforms if they're not going to engage with their audience? You do an amazing job at this.
AL: Every brand has a unique DNA and should create a social media strategy that reflects that DNA. There's not one answer here.

IHH: I'm super-excited about your book. In it, you give the advice to examine resources at your fingertips. What do you mean by this?
AL: Everyone has a network, whether they realize it or not. You have to use that, you have to build on it and you have to constantly make new connections. The Internet makes that easy!

IHH: How does it feel to be an author? Will you place your book on your coffee table?
AL: Honestly, I don't think I know yet. My book is on my book shelf and I look at every day and don't really register that I wrote it. It's surreal.

IHH: Do you believe in over-sharing on social media...do people go too far?
AL: I believe people can over-share. You need to step outside of yourself and think about how you're being viewed - by colleagues, friends and of course, your boss!

IHH: When you're not on your phone, what are you doing?
AL: Homework with my kids. I can't believe adults still have to do homework. You don't actually do it of course, but you have to sit next to them so they don't lose focus!

When I'm done with that I try to watch TV. I love TV. I need more hours in the day to watch all the shows I want to.

IHH: Would you ever wear flats to an event?
AL: I'd rather not go.

IHH: Your book is highly anticipated. Why should we all pick up a copy?
AL: Because it will be like me reading you a bedtime story. You'll hear me through the book and if you buy the audio version, you'll REALLY hear me, haha, because I read it. LEAVE YOUR MARK brings the reader along my career journey - it's a fun, easy read with TONS and TONS of advice!

How I Wore My Heels: Giving Back + Interview with Nicole Miller

Last week designer Nicole Miller visited Little Rock and appeared at the annual Bolo Bash luncheon in support of Baptist Health. It was my first time at this event (I mean, how?! It's been going on for 25 years and somehow I've missed the boat. I'll definitely be going back.) The entire event is based around charity and giving back to the doctors and healthcare community that helps us so much. I know I'm thankful they nursed my mother back to health this past summer when she went on life support.

I had a really nice time meeting people in the community I had communicated with, but never actually met in person. Bolo Bash featured an amazing auction (I had my eye on a colorful Nicole Miller clutch, but so did everyone else!) and an out-of-this-world lunch. They even decorated the room with a tropical theme to match the prints of Nicole's current spring collection, inspired by Rio. What a great idea, and it looked so perfect! My friend Lisa from B98.5 interviewed Nicole on stage, and it was truly entertaining. Afterwards, models walked the runway in the cutest crop tops and spring prints you've ever seen. It definitely made me want to go shopping right then and there (but then again, I have a problem).
I wore a gorgeous spring sheath designed by Nicole that I bought at the trunk show she hosted at Dillard's last week. I just couldn't resist. It's the perfect spring/summer dress that I can just "throw on" with the kids. And while I love it with heels to wear to events, I can wear it everyday with cute sandals.

Before Bolo Bash started, I was able to catch up with Nicole and ask her a few questions (forgive the quality of the sound/camera...one of these days I'm going to hire a personal assistant. Wink.). Scroll to the bottom to watch our interview!

Have a chic week, friends and lotsa air kisses. xoxo

P.S. Thanks to the ladies at Baptist Health and involved with Bolo Bash for hosting me last week. Everything was amazing!

Celebrity Makeup Artist Molly R. Stern on Her Favorite Foundation & Working With Reese Witherspoon

Beauty tips from Molly R. Stern
Hey, everyone! I'm skiing in Colorado this week, so I thought today would be a great day to share with you this Q&A with celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern. One of her beloved clients is Reese Witherspoon and we just l-o-v-e-d every thing about her award show looks.

Molly is one of the most renowned in the business, so I was pretty ecstatic to catch up with her and find out her beauty tips and secrets (scroll down for the mascara one...it's good!). Follow Molly on social media @mrsbymrs...she's both very creative and nice. Love that in Hollywood.

I Heart Heels: Award season was amazing this year! Who did you work with on the red carpet?
Molly R. Stern: Award season was a blast. I had the chance to work with Reese Witherspoon for all the shows as well as Julianna Marguiles for the Golden Globes and SAG. Two gorgeous women inside and out.

IHH: You always do an amazing job on Reese Witherspoon. Talk about her Golden Globes look...and what's it like working with her?
MS: The Golden Globes was a great look to collaborate on. Reese wore a custom Calvin Klein dress, which glistened with beads. I kept her look super flushed with a blackened golden eye. It was the start of the season and we came out of the gate feeling good.

IHH: What tricks do you like to use to open up the eyes...get rid of tired eyes?
MS: Concentrate your mascara at the center of the lash line. By adding an extra coat there you draw the attention to the center of the eye versus any part that might be droopy or tired.

IHH: What two products should a girl really invest in for her makeup routine?
MS: I think a good foundation or concealer is important - one that's easily blendable and buildable. That way you can get the coverage you need without looking like it's caked on. Also, blush. A good cream blush that has high pigment will last all day and look gorgeously natural.

IHH: Are you a fan of mineral foundation? It's been so popular.
MS: I don't lean towards mineral foundation. I really love Chantecaille Future Skin Oil Free Foundation. It's great for sensitive skin.

IHH: How important is lip color to the overall beauty look?
MS: Moist lips are important. The color is open to the mood and vibe of the day!

IHH: What's award season like for you...and what do you do when it's all over?
MS: Award season is challenging in the best way possible because I'm pushed creatively since I have to design new looks for each show. After this season ended, I was treated to a fabulous massage. I needed it!

IHH: Is curling the lashes a necessary step?
MS: Yes! It really opens up the eye!

IHH: Is your M.R.S. line still going strong?
MS: It's going! Growing a business is a wonderful, crazy journey. I'm working hard to make smart decisions and surround myself with people who understand what the brand stands for - MOTIVATION RADIANCE and STYLE - all things that come from within.

As women, we need to remember that nurturing who we are on the inside and loving ourselves will have the most powerful effect on the world and make being inspired by beauty and fashion that much easier.

IHH: Is being a celebrity makeup artist a great job to have with kids?
MS: I'm so blessed to have the career that I do. I'm able to work with the most hard-working, inspiring and talented people, travel the world and be a mom. I thank my lucky stars on a daily basis.

Bionda Castana: "It" Shoe Label of the Moment

A couple of years ago, I was introduced to the European luxury shoe label Bionda Castana ("Blonde Brunette" in Italian). I immediately fell in love. So, I visited the showroom in Soho while in New York and met up with co-founder and designer Natalia Barbieri (shown left...Jennifer Portman is also co-founder and designer, shown right.). Natalia is as gorgeous as her shoes and kindly walked me through her collection, allowing me to photograph them and really study them for the blog. (I was too timid at the time and honestly too crazed from fashion week to ask to try on a pair, but next time I think it's a must, yes?)

So when I recently learned that celebrities have been going nuts over the brand's shoes, I sorta squealed with delight. You like to see small brands "make" it and you like to support those who work hard, but also make time for even the most minute bloggers (blush). Or I know I like to see that, anyway. So, I'm thrilled to include this QA today with Natalia that outlines all my burning questions on the label, including who she wants to see wear them next! I hope you enjoy...and tell me which is your fav.

I Heart Heels: So many celebrities have worn the Lana heel lately. It's just lovely! Why do you think they gravitate towards this style so much?

Natalia Barbieri: Lana is our take on the classic single sole pump and is reflective of our love of architecture and art. This particular shape and style is very on trend. It's not ‘plain’ yet works in the same capacity as a ‘plain’ pump would with added cool. The shoe is easily worn with any outfit and is available in every color of the rainbow. Also, the fabrication of the style is popular because it's breathable. When wearing heels, our feet naturally swell, but the soft mesh at the front of the toes keeps our feet comfortable and this style doesn’t rub in the same way a leather-lined pump would.
IHH: Being a smaller shoe label, how hard is it to keep up with the competition? It seems you're doing it very well.
NB: The challenge is always, and will always be, how can we make the next collection better than the one before, what can we do in between seasons to keep the fire burning and how else can we tell our story while still keeping it in line with the brand values (be it through fashion film, collaborations with artists, etc.). There is a lot of competition out there. But it’s all creatively brilliant and exciting.

IHH: What's your own personal fav from the fall collection?
NB: I personally live in the DEKOTA bi-color bootie. It works with absolutely everything in my wardrobe and is perhaps the most comfortable shoe I’ve owned, EVER.

IHH: Working with shoes must be a dream job! (I mean, we think so.) What are some pros and cons of the job.
NB: Working with your best friend is the ultimate pro. A con is not having a lot of spare time - but I guess everyone can say the same thing.

IHH: Which celebrities do you want to see wearing Bionda Castana next?
NB: Diane Kruger, Jessica Chastain and Beyoncé.

IHH: What are some of the details on your shoes that make then stand out from other shoe labels?
NB: We work with bold prints, but that are still tasteful and wearable. Also, our use of transparency is a signature of ours. It’s the aesthetic of the brand, it’s not something we come up with per season. It just is.

IHH: Who is the Bionda Castana girl?
NB: She's cool, confident and elegant in a non-traditional way. Not trying too hard, yet cuts a striking figure.

The Best Part of Jessica Simpson's Wedding Day, From Her Stylist Nicole Chavez

I keep meaning to post this, so forgive my post-birthday 33-year-old self (I'm so old...eye roll). So much has gone on lately and this happened just before I left for New York. (Insert hair flip.) Jessica Simpson was recently married, yes? Well I recently got the inside deets from her stylist and BFF Nicole Chavez. LOVE. Her. She was a bridesmaid and let me know all the behind-the-scenes details about the big, nothing but beautiful, day. Including the shoes...squeal!

What the day was like for Nicole
Jess and I have been friends for years. I most definitely wore waterproof mascara. I'm very close with all the bridesmaids, so it was such an honor styling each one of my friends.

What it was like searching for the perfect wardrobe (and shoes!) for both Jess and friends
Jessica and I spent a lot of time hand-selecting each gown for each bridesmaid. We searched runway, in stores, online and even custom made a gown for one of the girls. Jessica and I worked with her collection team to design a custom heel and flat for each of the girls.

What Nicole will always remember about the day
Just before the wedding, there was a moment when all the girls were dressed and being photographed. To step back and see the all girls in their individual gowns surrounding Jessica, I was overwhelmed. It was such a labor of love and to have brought Jessica's vision to life, I felt a great sense of accomplishment. It was a truly magical day.

Summer Style Tips from Adam Glassman of O, The Oprah Magazine

While I'm still lounging on the beach this week, I asked my Twitter friend Adam Glassman, Creative Director (and major style guru!) of O, The Oprah Magazine, to stop by and give us his best summer style tips. He shares everything from slimming swimsuits to styling the color white. Enjoy and see you back here Monday, lovelies! Xoxo

IHH: Since it's summer, what are a few ultra-flattering swimsuit styles for those still trying to lose a few pounds?
Adam Glassman: One pieces with ruching or draping, strong fabrics, inner mesh for shaping, and dark colors or strategic prints are perfect for camouflaging a midsection problem area. A suit like one from Miraclesuit contains feature-minimizing Lycra Spandex. Land's End also has a great one-piece suit with hidden shaping technology to give the appearance of a smoother stomach. It's important to wear what you're comfortable in and know what looks good on you. Always do the "towel test" to see if you may be revealing too much in a suit.

IHH: Maxi dresses are still so hot, but what shoes look the best?
AG: I'm loving maxi dresses this summer. If you're hosting a party, try wearing your dress with jeweled slides or nude wedges and lots of bracelets. If you're looking to be more casual, throw on some flip-flops or flats with a slouchy bag. Just remember only wear flip-flops if you're at the beach.

IHH: What are some chic swimsuit cover-up options?
AG: There's no use spending money on a great suit if you're going to look frumpy in your cover-up. There are easy ways to look chic in a cover-up. I love the sarongs from Simple Sarongs. They have buttons so wrapping is a no-brainer. You can throw it over a suit, add some cute shoes and go from poolside to the bar. Sun protection is always in as well. A cover-up that offers UPF protection is great. Right now I'm loving a nautical-themed cover-up from Parasol Sun with 50+ UPF protection.

IHH: How do you wear white without adding pounds?
AG: Many people think only black is slimming, but that's simply not true. You just have to choose the right style for your body. Over-the-knee length dresses flatter taller women. Boyish frames should try a boxy silhouette and A-line flatters pear-shaped women. A drop-waist pleated white dress looks great on all body types. Whatever dress you decide to wear, do not break these two rules: if you're wearing a white dress, wear nude lingerie that matches your skin tone and don't wear white shoes!

IHH: What's the trick to mixing patterns?
AG: Wear what you're comfortable in. Don't be afraid to mix colors and patterns, but if you're nervous about wearing patterns, try printed pieces with a white or neutral background to ground the look. If you do decide to mix patterns, make sure that the color intensity of both patterns are equal: brights with brights and pastels with pastels.

Rachel Zoe: Shoes Make Me Feel 'Polished, Confident and Glamorous'

Designer and stylist Rachel Zoe chats about new favorite shoes and new book.
When I started I Heart Heels nearly six (!) years ago I never would've dreamed I'd have today's Q&A on here...let's just be real, ok? You know me by now and I can't act all nonchalant about having Rachel Zoe on the blog today because...squeallllll! It's the ultimate. Or really I should say it's pretty much everything. I met RZ outside Lincoln Center in 2012 during fashion week and quickly asked for a photo with my shaky hand (you don't wanna see the finished product). I would've given my left peeptoe to feature her in this space, so to have her here today to share her shoe obsession and how to style them is beyond. (oh, and don't forget to pick up her brand-new book Living in Style...I know I am!) Ready, set...

I Heart Heels: ALL of your shoes are phenomenal. Which ones in your latest collection mirror the most about your own personal style?
Rachel Zoe: I’m really obsessed with the Mason gladiator sandal. It’s a sexy spin on a classic style and totally wearable with its chunky heel and adjustable straps. I love it styled with ethereal dresses, stacked gold bangles and soft wavy hair. I can’t get enough of this sandal.

IHH: You wore heels up until you gave birth. Would you say your personal shoe-wearing game has changed very much since you've had your two boys?
RZ: That’s true, I did…with both of my boys! My personal shoe-wearing game hasn’t changed much since I was 15. Personally, the higher the better. When I design my collection I like to think about the women in my life, what they’re wearing and what they want to be wearing.

"My personal shoe-wearing game hasn’t changed much since I was 15. Personally, the higher the better." -- Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist

IHH: Your ankle-strap Melina is awesome! How would you wear this - and what's a fav from your winter collection that you love to wear?
RZ: The Melina is gorgeous – so sleek and sexy! Style it with your favorite LBD and a leather moto jacket for an edgy yet feminine combination.

One of my other favorite styles is the Caden pump – it’s effortlessly polished with a subtle chain embossed detail across the toes – I love it! Definitely a pump every woman should have in her wardrobe.

IHH: How will the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2014 shoe collections compare to what we've seen in the past?
RZ: Every season I'm more excited than the last! I'm continuing to develop styles using rich textures, exotic skins and distinct hardware that feel modern and polished. For me, this spring was all about safari – full of gladiator sandals, zebra-printed haircalf and snake embossed leather, while the fall collection has mod elements with over-the-knee boots, moto boots and menswear-inspired oxfords.

IHH: Three words that sum up how shoes make you feel.
RZ:
Polished. Confident. Glamorous.

A Look Inside the Glee Costume Design Department

Glee costume design assistant chats about working on the TV show
Oscars hangover anyone? Meh, me either...I'm old. But, oh those dresses! I definitely have fun each season gasping over them on the red carpet. I love everything about a great red carpet gown, from the celebrities wearing them to the designers who create them, not to mention, the stylists for their vision. Which leads me to today's Q&A with Glee costume assistant Andrea Medina. She's got a keen eye for costume detail and has been with the show since its inception. What a cool job, eh? If you've ever wondered what it's like to design for TV, here's an inside peek!

I Heart Heels: How did you discover costume design, and what made you choose it as your profession?
Andrea Medina: I discovered costume design as a profession I was interested in when I was in high school. I used to attend television tapings in L.A., and was intrigued by what went on behind the scenes. I then did research on the profession and was determined to make it my career. In college, I set out to do internships [and] started interning my second year. I completed seven costume internships before I graduated with a double major Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design/Textiles and Fashion Merchandising. Costuming is truly my passion.

IHH: How long have you worked with the cast of Glee, and what exactly do you do as a costume design assistant?
AM: I've worked for Glee since Season 1. I started as the costume department intern for three seasons while in college. I graduated after Season 3 and became the full-time costume assistant for Season 4 and currently Season 5.

As the costume assistant, I mainly assist our Costume Supervisor, Carol Kunz, and costume designer, Robert Blackman. My duties at our office at Paramount Pictures include [everything from] filing and closing out paperwork with retail stores and organizing fitting rooms [to] picking up actors for their fittings. When we go on location, my main duty is checking in background actors and writing what items they borrow from us for the day.

One of my favorite things is helping our costume designer conduct research. I often go back into our archives to see what costumes have been worn for various past performances to make sure they're not repetitive. I then put together research boards displaying the images I found, and also boards with fitting pictures, showing the actors in the outfits they tried on. These boards are then sent to our producers/directors, who pick the costumes they want for big musical numbers.

I assist in fittings with our cast to make sure the outfits we fit on our actors are kept in order for upcoming episodes, and I take note of alterations that need to be made and accessories that need to be added to the outfits.

IHH: What's one of your favorite episodes for Glee that you've dressed to date?
AM: There are two episodes that come to mind. No way can I choose between them! The first is “Guilty Pleasures” from Season 4. We created costumes for numbers inspired by WHAM!, the Spice Girls, and ABBA. I've always wanted us to do a Spice Girls number, so it really was a dream come true to be a part of the recreation of some iconic looks.

The second episode is “A Katy or a Gaga” from Season 5. The looks for “Applause,” Adam Lambert’s “Marry the Night,” and “Roar” were so much fun to see come to life. Our costume designer, Robert Blackman, came up with brilliant designs to recreate various Katy Perry and Lady Gaga looks. Robert also collaborated with Adam Lambert to come up with the “Starchild” performance look. As a team, we were passionate about finding the elements to make the costumes come to life and make a statement. We're very proud of the results!

IHH: What's the costume design process like from beginning to end? How long does it take to design an episode and how closely are you working with the cast members?
AM: At the very start of the season, during pre-production, we have “closet” fittings with each cast member for their “school” or “everyday” changes. This usually occurs one week before shooting the season. Then, throughout the season we have additional fittings for more everyday changes and specific musical performance looks.

Like we all have at home, the characters have their own closet space in our costume department. Our costume designer pulls from pieces in their closet that our team has shopped for when putting all the outfits together for an episode. Once their closet starts to become empty, we shop for additional pieces and have an hour-long fitting with each actor. These fittings usually occur before they start shooting or once they're done with their scene for the day. The actors definitely have a say when it comes to how things are fit to them and make them feel, but typically they let us put on them whatever we envision for the character/scene/musical number. We're always open to their input and perspective.

Sometimes, we may not receive a script until a couple of days before an episode starts shooting. Once we get a script, the costume designer and team reads through it and makes notes. We then put together concept/inspiration boards to present to the director and producers. The costume supervisor and designer next attend a crew production meeting with the heads of each department to get specific notes on what the musical numbers and episode as a whole will entail. From there, we usually have 2-4 days to get major costume looks prepared. If a musical number calls for extravagant costumes/hair/makeup/sets, etc, those numbers are shot later in the week to give the different departments more time to prepare. It takes about eight days to shoot one episode.

IHH: How do shoes fit into the costume equation?
AM: On television, unfortunately, shoes are rarely seen! The camera shots are typically either a wide shot, where you can barely see the shoe detail, or a close, upper body shot. Although this is the case, we being the costume department, care very much about every single detail, no matter how much camera time the look gets. We want to make sure to give the actors a complete look, to allow them to feel like a properly dressed character. We have a bin of shoes for each character, and rotate them out with various outfits, just like anyone in real life would do. When it comes to shoes especially, we make sure the actors get to wear styles they're comfortable in, because they have to walk, run and even dance in them on our show! Shoes play a significant role in the characters’ head-to-toe look.

IHH: At the end of the day, what gives you the most satisfaction about your job?
AM: I'm given the most satisfaction when I see the teamwork and passion that our Glee Costumes team has. We love our job, and we love working with the cast and crew of Glee. We all have a common goal to make our show look amazing, and to allow the actors to truly feel like their character. It's the absolute best thing when we all get together on a weekly basis during lunch, to watch each episode the week it airs on the big screen. Seeing our hard work come to life gives me so much satisfaction!

Marie Claire's Accessories Director Kyle Anderson On How to Work in Fashion

Kyle Anderson of Marie Claire talks about magazines, fashion and Nina Garcia.
There are only so many people I can actually stand to follow on Twitter, let's face it. Marie Claire Accessories Director Kyle Anderson is definitely one. I mean, he tweets photos of gorgeous shoes and actually engages with his followers. What more could we ask for, honestly? I personally love Kyle. Why? Because he seems like a really hard worker with an incredibly unique fashion statement always (but, have you seen his fashion week outfits?) and, of course, genuine. He also lives at Barneys, Bergdorfs and Starbucks, so we could totally be BFFs.

Luckily, I had the quick chance to catch up with him during his busy pre-fashion week schedule to ask him about working with Nina Garcia, what trend he can't get behind and just how do you get a job in fashion? Have fun reading!

I Heart Heels: What do you love about your job at Marie Claire? Accessories Director seems like a dream...is it?
Kyle Anderson: As far back as elementary school I dreamed of working in fashion. I was obsessed with looking at fashion magazines at the public library, even as far back as third grade. I'm lucky enough to say that in many ways a lot of my life dreams have come true.

"A heel made with special materials feels luxe and makes people take notice." -- Kyle Anderson, Marie Claire Accessories Director

IHH: You've named Nina Garcia as a major mentor. How do you two work together regularly and what about her inspires you?
KA: I think it's important, especially working in fashion, that your boss has a similar aesthetic to you. For the most part, we like the same bags...shoes...collection...jewelry. So that makes working [together] a lot easier. She's given me many opportunities as well as hiring me for my first job at Elle eight years ago.

IHH: What is it about a high heel that makes you take notice in editorial? I'm always loving your tweets!
KA: I think people expect a high heel. Ive tried shooting flats and people haven't really liked it. A heel made with special materials feels luxe and makes people take notice.

IHH: Fashion week is approaching. Do you plan your outfits in advance or is it on a whim?
KA: Definitely planned in advance. Not what will be worn each day, but just the fact that it's not just "sitting-at-the-desk-typing" kind of outfits. I try to have more fun and wear things that make fashion week more exciting.

"Never say never and be open minded. The old saying 'everything happens for a reason' is kind of true. You have to think of life that way or you'll go crazy."
IHH: Your style is so original. Is there anything out there that just makes you nauseous in fashion?
KA: I never say never because you just never know. The minute you say you hate something you're sure to see that on the runway. I used to say I hate overalls. Now I see them at Balmain and I kind of want some. You never know. In general, I can say I haven't really ever been a fan of preppy.

IHH: If you aren't at Barneys, we can find you hanging out where?
KA: Starbucks or Bergdorfs.

IHH: Any advice to those looking to become fashion editors in their future?
KA: Never give up. People definitely did not give me many - if any - opportunities for jobs in the beginning. Before Nina, nobody ever gave me a chance, even having had six internships and working like crazy. It was really tough. Never give up and try new opportunities as they arrive. Never say never and be open minded. The old saying 'everything happens for a reason' is kind of true. You have to think of life that way or you'll go crazy.

Charlotte Ronson Shares Her Celebrity Style Crushes - and Favorite Spring Pieces

Charlotte Ronson is one of my fav designers these days - I completely love the cool-girl aesthetic of her ready-to-wear line, but also the accessibility and affordability of her I Heart Ronson line with JCPenney. Both are sensible and a wardrobe you'd want to share with your best friends because it's just so fun. Party dresses with cut-outs, crop tops with plaid pants, quirky dog sweaters. (Not to mention, she throws a mean party.) In just a couple of short weeks, we'll be covering her 2014 fall collection at fashion week, and can't wait to see what's in store.

For now, Charlotte was exceptionally nice (isn't she always?) to answer a few questions for us in the chaos of her prep for the presentation. Read below to find out how she's getting ready for fashion week and what some of her fav spring items are...squeal!

I Heart Heels: Did you do anything fun for the holidays?
Charlotte Ronson: Yes! I did lots of traveling. I spent Christmas in Dubai and New Year's in Sri Lanka. It was amazing to experience such unconventional beauty on the other side of the world.

IHH: Your I Heart Ronson line with JCPenney just keeps getting better and better (love this fall's moto jacket!). How do you think it's evolved?
CR: The collection has evolved to become a lot more sophisticated and trend driven with a focus on day-to-night dressing.

IHH: What makes you most excited when you wake every morning?
CR: I feel lucky every day to be able to go to a job that I'm passionate about and doesn't always feel like work.

IHH: You have lots of celebrity friends who wear your clothing. Who are your own celebrity style crushes?

CR: Kate Moss, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lauren Hutton and Bianca Jagger – they're all confident and unique in their individual style and stay true to who they are.

IHH: Your show is a must every fashion week. What are you currently doing to prep for next month and will it be a more low-key presentation again?

CR: I'll be showing at The Hub at the Hudson Hotel, which is a part of IMG. From now until fashion week, I'm working with my design team on fitting the collection, working with my stylist Natalie Joos on the looks and any additional accessories, casting models, and confirming hair & makeup. Lastly, I'm working with my production team and my talented friend Happy Massee on the set design for my presentation.

IHH: Any inspiration you can share for the upcoming line?

CR: You'll just have to wait and see...

IHH: Many of us already look forward to the dainty floral dresses of spring. What are a couple major CR looks we should be on the lookout for in a few months?

CR: I have so many favorite looks, but here are a few. My floral osprey cut-out cami flounce dress, my cherry-print rib-waist pullover (paired with my black lambskin shorts with eyelet inserts), and lastly, my gingham sleeveless crossover shell paired with my white eyelet wrap-front skort.
