Take Care of Your Hair: Tips from DreamDry

As you know, when it comes to beauty stories, I'm super into managing my hair. After all, I have plenty of it! So when DreamDry (of NYC and Chicago) offered up these tips to pass along to you all, I jumped on it like a shoe
sale!

Stylist Bricel Cury sent over a few handy hair tips that apply to every hair type. (And, nope, humidity is no joke with this hair.)

thin hair?
Search for products free of silicones and dense oils – these will significantly weigh down your hair. You’ll want to find lighter products, especially when it comes to your shampoo and conditioner, that are gentle on hair, while creating great body and movement.

Avoid cleansers that foam as these usually contain sodium laurel sulfates (SLS). SLS is a common ingredient that promotes a lather for your cleanser, however it also strips your strands of essential oils and proteins they need.

medium to thick hair?
Stick to a line of products that make hair more manageable, those that claim to tame or help smooth out hair are best. Humidity is your hair’s worst enemy, especially during the warmer months, so I suggest finding products that contain Keratin. This key ingredient works to diminish frizz and flyways by restoring the fiber in your hair cuticle for strong, flexible strands.

color treated or damaged hair?
If you color or use curling/flat irons often, you might find your hair feels dry and damaged. Look for products free of sulfates and parabens, as these can fade your coveted color, irritate your scalp and cause hair loss!

UV protection is key for all hair, however it’s especially important for hair that’s colored and often styled using heating tools. Since your hair is in a fragile state, exposure to UVA and UVB rays from the sun can further damage the outer layer of strands – which can lead to discoloration and hair that looks and feels dry.

split ends?
For those trying to grow out hair, split ends can be a nightmare. Split ends are a clear sign of damaged hair, and when they go untreated can result in more tangles as the rough ends intertwine adding on more breakage. It’s important to regularly trim unhealthy split ends to lessen breakage, while still protecting your hair daily. Look for products that keep split ends under control, while sealing your ends and creating a smooth soft finish.

P.S. I know I've been a little under the radar the last couple of weeks and I'm sorry!! I've got some pretty exciting news to share soon! Hashtag: building my empire. Wink. Xoxo
